What Is Compassion

What Is Compassion?

According to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, compassion is “a sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress, together with a desire to alleviate it.”

That’s interesting, but true compassion runs much broader and deeper than a dictionary can convey. Here are some quotes about compassion from people you may have heard of:

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” -Dalai Lama

“Compassion is the ultimate expression of your highest self.” – Russell Simmons

“Compassion isn’t about solutions. It’s about giving all the love that you’ve got.” – Cheryl Strayed.

“When you have learned compassion for yourself, compassion for others is automatic.” – Henepola Gunaratana

“Compassion is the key to living outside the confines of your lower self.” – Debbie Ford

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” -Dalai Lama
